Meet Serafina

I'm Serafina (she/her),a qualified integrative counsellor specialising in working with young people. I have worked with young people in various settings for over 35 years. It has been my life’s work and passion to be part of their world in a supportive and nurturing way.

I started my career as a youth worker in Sheffield, before moving to Manchester to complete a PGCE in Art and Design. After eighteen dynamic years teaching Art in a variety of inner city schools Manchester and Salford, I moved down with my family to the beautiful South Hams in Devon.

I continued teaching here in both schools and later as a tutor / mentor with young people who were EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance) and neurodivergent young people waiting for a placement.

A few years ago, I took the difficult decision to leave teaching and retrain as a counsellor because I could see a significant rise in mental health problems in young people both in and out of school.

I feel now, more than ever, young people need compassion and guidance to navigate the growing demands and challenges of daily life. I trained as a counsellor because I believe that having good mental health is the key to being able to have a fulfilled and meaningful life.

Since qualifying, I have already enjoyed working as a voluntary counsellor for the Wellbeing Hub University Centre South Devon and currently I'm privileged to be back in the school environment as a School Counsellor, as well as helping young people in my private practice.

I am a member of the NCPS (The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society), and I adhere to their ethical framework.
